Aberdeen Board of Museum and History

The City of Aberdeen is seeking interested candidates for appointment to serve a three-year term on the Aberdeen Board of Museum and History.

The Aberdeen Board of Museum and History is charged with the responsibility of developing plans and programs for the preservation and recognition of the historical heritage of the city and the surrounding area, including the maintenance and display of city property transferred to the care and custody of the board. It shall develop and coordinate historical projects for the city. The board has the power to apply for and accept gifts, donations, bequests and grants in the name of the city for the collection and display of books, maps, charts, papers, photographs , films, relics and other materials illustrative of the heritage of the area. The board may expend only such moneys as may be appropriated by the city council and only upon the authorization of the city council. The Aberdeen Board of Museum and History meets each first Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm, but this time is subject to change upon recommendation of the board and approval of the city council.

For the past few decades , the Friends of the Aberdeen History Museum, a local non-profit, has operated the recently-destroyed Aberdeen Museum of History. With the challenges faced in re establishing the Aberdeen Museum of History, the City of Aberdeen , through [or including] the Aberdeen Board of Museum and History, will take a more active role in ensuring the museum returns better than ever to share our cultural heritage with future generations . This means we will need an active board (anticipate 5-10 hours per month) filled with members who are not only passionate about history, but also have the necessary experience and vision to see this project through to completion.

If you are interested in serving on the Aberdeen Board of Museum and History, please send a resume and letter detailing why you feel you would be a good addition to the board to the following address :
