Community Flood Assistance and Resilience (CFAR) Program

  • The Washington Department of Ecology, Office of Chehalis Basin, and Chehalis Basin Board announce a new service to residents and businesses who are concerned about flooding. A technical advisor can talk with you about ways to protect your building from flood damage, flood insurance information, and how the Basin’s flood warning system works. In some cases, the advisor can visit your property to review alternative ways to reduce or prevent flood damage.
  • The program also has funds to help pay for projects like elevating a house or floodproofing a business. Applications for such funding this biennium are due in August, and require discussions with a technical advisor first. If you are interested in a project, you need to call for a technical assistance visit by July 17.
  • Requests for technical assistance need to be submitted to Chrissy Bailey, Principal planner, chrissy.bailey@ecy.wa.gov, 360-407-6781. A request can be submitted at any time, but if you think you could use funds for a flood protection project next year, you should get it in by July 17, 2020.
