Planning Functions
The objective of the Department is the day-to-day administration of the City�s land use regulations, which focus on public information services, building permit review of conformance with zoning regulations, environmental policy review for all public and private sector projects, including critical areas and land use permit processing.

The Department serves as secretary to the Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustment, the Shoreline Hearings Board, the Good Neighbors Revolving Loan Fund, the Historic Preservation Commission and the Lodging Tax Committee.
Development Functions
This Department pursues loan and grant opportunities from both federal and state-sponsored programs. The City acts as both a direct recipient of funding or as a pass-through agency for business.
The Department monitors several grant and loan programs, including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG), the Good Neighbors Revolving Loan Fund (GNRLF), the Brownfield Redevelopment Program, etc.
